The Only Radical Opposition Member in the Constitutional Commission is Gevorg Petrosyan?
The newspaper ‘Hraparak’ reports: ‘The only radical opposition member in the Constitutional Amendments Commission is Gevorg Petrosyan, as Arpine Hovhannisyan was not confirmed. However, Petrosyan is considered an “undesirable person,” and the conflict surrounding him in the National Assembly had a long-term objective of forcing him to resign his mandate to ensure that no similarly dangerous lawyer would be present in the commission,’ the newspaper's source stated.
‘Do you share this view?’ we asked Petrosyan. ‘Everything is to be expected from this government. One person can tell me to resign my mandate, but he does not share that opinion.’ Moreover, repressions have now begun against ‘that person’ as well. ‘Today, repressions have started against everyone in Armenia. If this continues, we all should pack our things and leave Armenia; let them go, especially since Armenia is a foreign land for them.’ As for the constitutional amendments, the initiating subject, in this case, the Armenian government, was obliged to present a concept outlining the goals and targets of these changes. There is no such concept, which makes the hypothesis plausible that the amendments are aimed at resolving personal issues, including that of the president of the Constitutional Court, and filling the state apparatus with their own people, leading to a direct presidential administration.
It is worth noting that the commission consists of loyal and familiar individuals, and there are also people whose presence raises serious questions. For instance, what does Daniel Ioannisyan have to do with the Constitution? He seems to be a physicist,’ he added. For more detailed information, refer to today’s issue of the newspaper.
