Another State Contract Will Be Signed with the Yegvard 'Nairi' Maternity Hospital: Torosyan
Another state contract will be signed with the Yegvard 'Nairi' Maternity Hospital, and it is possible that a transitional period of one year will be granted to the maternity hospital. This was stated by Health Minister Arsen Torosyan during a press briefing after today’s government meeting, in response to questions about the closure of maternity hospitals.
He noted that this decision was reached as a result of discussions in recent days, considering that the number of births registered at the Yegvard maternity hospital is close to the minimal number set by the government—150 births per year. Last year, 136 births were registered at the Yegvard maternity hospital.
Torosyan requested not to use the term 'closure', emphasizing that they are not closing any medical institutions. “I can say that some of the staff working in these medical institutions providing maternity services also provide other services in the same institution, and we are ready to discuss job placement for those staff who cannot provide other services in other medical facilities,” he noted.
“There is a perception in society that we are closing some hospital and utilizing the building, reducing access to services that are essential on a daily basis. On the contrary, consultation and primary services will be maintained and further developed, while certain departments of the mentioned medical institutions will cease to provide inpatient care,” the Minister added.
