Turkey Reacts Strongly to the Adoption of the Armenian Genocide Resolution by the US Senate
The adoption of a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide by the US Senate has prompted a strong response in Turkey. Turkish officials have been releasing statements condemning the Senate’s decision, as reported by ermenihaber.
Following the presidential office, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs also responded. Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu took to Twitter, stating, "The US Senate's decision is a political spectacle. It lacks legal basis and power. Those who use history for political purposes are cowards who do not want to confront the past."
Also commenting on the matter was Erdoğan’s spokesperson, İbrahim Kalın, who noted that this resolution would have no effect on Turkey's determined stance on political, economic, or military matters.
It is important to recall that the US Senate has recently passed a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide. The resolution, numbered 150, presented by Senators Robert Menendez and Ted Cruz, was adopted unanimously and officially rejects Turkey's denial of the genocides committed against Armenians, Greeks, Syriacs, Assyrians, and other Christian nations. It aims to promote awareness of the Armenian Genocide to prevent contemporary atrocities.
