Lavrov and Aliyev Discuss Nagorno-Karabakh Settlement
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, during a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, expressed the interest of the Russian side in the implementation of agreements regarding confidence-building measures related to the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. “We are interested in ensuring that the agreements on confidence-building measures and the establishment of humanitarian ties, reached at the Vienna summit and reaffirmed during the meeting of ministers in Moscow, become a reality,” said the Russian Foreign Minister.
He noted that at this moment, these agreements are being gradually implemented. Lavrov also expressed hope that the upcoming meeting of the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia this week would help consolidate these processes. At the same time, Lavrov agreed with Aliyev that much still needs to be done for the long-term political settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
