Detention of Defendant Sargis Ohanyan in Judge Anna Danibekyan's Case Extended by One Month

The Yerevan City Court of General Jurisdiction, presided over by Judge Nelly Baghdasaryan, has just announced a decision to extend the detention time for defendant Sargis Ohanyan in the case involving Judge Anna Danibekyan. Although the Investigative Committee had requested a two-month extension of the detention period, the court has granted a one-month extension.

In a conversation with Hetq, Ohanyan's lawyer Vahe Yeprikyan confirmed the ruling. It is important to note that Sargis Ohanyan, along with Narek Mutafyan, actively participated in protest actions supporting Armenia's second President Robert Kocharyan. They are accused under the first part of Article 332 of the Criminal Code for intervening in the court's activities in a way that obstructs the administration of justice.

On the evening of September 27, while walking to the Shengavit Court, Judge Danibekyan was approached by young individuals, one of whom repeatedly inquired whether the judge was on the 'list of whimpering judges.' Initially, a criminal case was opened against the perpetrators for disrespectful behavior towards the judge; however, Mutafyan and Ohanyan were subsequently charged under the article related to obstructing the administration of justice, which carries more severe penalties.
