Corrupt Judge and Lawyer Sentenced to Imprisonment
The judge of the Yerevan City Court of General Jurisdiction, Tatevik Grigoryan, has recently announced the verdict in the case of Judge Gagik Heboyan, who was accused of receiving a bribe, and lawyer Vahagn Danielyan, who was accused of aiding in bribery.
According to the verdict, Gagik Heboyan was found guilty of accepting a bribe and was sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property. Meanwhile, Vahagn Danielyan's charge of aiding in the acceptance of a bribe was reclassified as mediation for bribery, resulting in a 2-year prison sentence for him. Danielyan had been in custody for 1 month and 5 days.
It is noteworthy that the prosecution alleged that Gagik Heboyan demanded a bribe of $3,500 in exchange for releasing a citizen from paying a state tax of 3,580,000 drams. After negotiations, the final agreement with the citizen was reached for a bribe of $2,500. To avoid personally accepting the bribe and being exposed, the judge sought the assistance of his lawyer Vahagn Danielyan, who was found guilty of acting as a mediator in the bribery case.
