Why Are Flu Vaccinations Delayed? The Ministry Explains

The Ministry of Health of Armenia has issued a statement addressing the news regarding the shortage of seasonal flu vaccines.

Dear citizens,

We apologize for the delay in flu vaccinations. The vaccine is already in the country. Currently, customs clearance and distribution to primary health care institutions are being organized.

There are several justified reasons for the delays in vaccinations this and previous seasons. The Ministry of Health launched several phases of tenders for vaccine procurement for the 2019-2020 season; however, there were no participants, or the proposals did not meet the requirements of the Law on Procurement.

At the same time, there is a global shortage of seasonal flu vaccines, and Armenia's small market is not attractive to suppliers. In addition, unlike other vaccines, the seasonal flu vaccine does not build up stock reserves; it is purchased only for the specific season.
