Court Announces Verdicts in Karaganda Murder Case Involving Armenians

The court has announced the verdicts in the case of a mass brawl and murder that occurred near the "Old Rome" restaurant in Karaganda, Kazakhstan. The defendants numbered 13 participants from the mass fight.

According to the court ruling, Azerbaijani Yusif Nurul was found guilty of the murder of a 23-year-old Kazakh man and of hooliganism involving the use of a weapon. The court sentenced him to 19 years in prison and ordered him to pay 3 million tenge in restitution to the victim's family.

The remaining participants in the mass brawl were found guilty of hooliganism under the Criminal Code. Four of them received sentences of 3 years in prison, while another six were given measures of restraint that limited their freedom for 4 to 4.5 years.

Two of the brawl participants reached an agreement with the victim's side and compensated for the material damage; they were exempted from punishment.

Among the participants, citizen of Armenia Narek Gururyan is still in Russia. It was previously announced that the issue of Gururyan's deportation is still under resolution.
