«Hayastani Hanrapetutyun». Artsakh Parliament to Reject Constitutional Amendments Proposal
«Hayastani Hanrapetutyun» newspaper reports that the agenda of today's session of the Artsakh Parliament includes a package of constitutional amendments proposed by supporters of Samvel Babayan. According to our sources, parliamentary forces have reached a consensus to reject the proposal to amend the Constitution of the Republic of Artsakh.
It is important to recall that months ago, Babayan initiated a petition that garnered nearly 20,000 signatures in support of implementing constitutional amendments, which would remove the residency requirement for presidential candidates. This change would allow Samvel Babayan to run for president. However, there is opposition to this amendment in Artsakh, with concerns that it contradicts the Constitution and carries dangerous consequences.
