Playgrounds in Yerevan Covered with Rubber Mats

Safe playgrounds for children: According to the Yerevan Municipality, playgrounds in the city's yards are being covered with rubber mats. The Yerevan Municipality reports that "we have allocated 2800 square meters of surface area for competition in the 12 administrative districts. It is planned to cover 2-3 yards in each district," says Grigor Harutyunyan, head of the Construction and Improvement Department of the Yerevan Municipality.

This globally accepted approach is currently being implemented in Yerevan as part of a pilot program. Instead of sand or asphalt, soft rubber flooring has already been installed in Yerevan playgrounds. "It is a safe, durable material, soft, and environmentally friendly for children," says Harutyunyan.

According to the head of the Construction and Improvement Department of the Yerevan Municipality, the scope of the program will increase in 2020. "For next year, we have already allocated double the budget—100 million drams will be dedicated to it: The warranty for these floors is stated to be 7-10 years." This year, the pilot program includes a total of 23 yard areas.

Alongside improvement programs, Yerevan yards also need daily maintenance. Every year, the community budget allocates funds for this purpose to the administrative districts.
