Over 175,000 Foreign Visas Canceled in the U.S. During Trump Administration
The U.S. Department of State has announced the cancellation of more than 175,000 visas for foreign nationals during President Donald Trump’s administration. This move was prompted by criminal acts, non-compliance with visa requirements, fraud, calls for violence, and other threats to national security.
According to the information released by the department, the majority of the canceled visas are related to violations and arrests made by law enforcement. Key reasons for the revocations include assaults, driving under the influence of alcohol, theft, and drug-related offenses.
The list also includes cases of dangerous driving, sexual assault, cruelty to children, fraud, and embezzlement of funds.
“The cancellations are the result of ongoing reviews by the Department. They ensure that visa holders comply with their conditions and do not pose a threat to Americans,” the statement read.
The foreign affairs agency emphasized that the Trump administration will continue to identify and investigate instances when foreign nationals are deemed a threat to U.S. security. “A U.S. visa is a privilege, not a right,” officials stated, adding that the department will continue to exercise all available powers to revoke the visas of those who abuse this privilege.
