European Court of Human Rights Registers Applications from Robert Kocharyan
The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has received and registered the applications of Armenia's second president, Robert Kocharyan. This was reported by Kocharyan's defense team on their Facebook page.
"The ECHR has received and registered the applications from the second president of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, concerning the violations of convention rights committed during his detention process," the statement said.
The ECHR's secretary informed the legal team that the applications were received on October 17 and 18. The ECHR will review them at the first possible opportunity.
It is noteworthy that Robert Kocharyan's defense team had appealed to the Constitutional Court to examine the constitutionality of the Court of Appeal's decision regarding Kocharyan's detention not being reviewed by the Supreme Court. Kocharyan's defenders filed an application to the Supreme Court to overturn the Court of Appeal's decision dated June 25. The Supreme Court rejected the application. Following this, the defenders announced their intention to appeal to the ECHR.
