Draft to 'Politicalize' Positions of NSS and Police Chiefs Approved
Today, the National Assembly approved in the first reading a draft law that sets the same criteria for the leaders of the National Security Service (NSS) and the police as it does for government members and parliamentarians.
It is noteworthy that the law provides additional freedom to the Prime Minister in making appointments to these positions, as current regulations force the Prime Minister to appoint leaders exclusively from 'within the system'.
According to the proposed law, anyone over the age of 25 can be appointed to these positions, even if they have no prior connection to these agencies.
Today, the ruling coalition announced its support for the motion presented by the Bright Armenia Party, provided that the draft will be revised with the participation of 'My Step' faction members and representatives of the government before the second reading. The draft received 111 votes in favor and 2 against.
