Armenia is Not a Place for Criminal Authorities: Alen Simonyan

The situation in Armenia's penitentiary institutions is under control and there are no issues. During a conversation with journalists on September 6, Alen Simonyan, a member of the ‘My Step’ faction and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, made this statement regarding the manifestations of disobedience that occurred in prisons on the evening of September 5.

“I am aware that the situation is currently under control and there are no issues. I can reiterate that the Republic of Armenia is not a place for criminal authorities,” emphasized Simonyan.

On the evening of September 5, acts of disobedience were registered in certain prisons, which were halted following operational actions taken by the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice.

On his Facebook page, RA Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan wrote that the situation is under the control of the ministry and there are no instances of disobedience. “In case of possible developments, actions will be taken within the framework of my powers based on the situation,” the minister stated.
