Erdogan Hosts Representatives of the Armenian Community in Istanbul on 'Turkey's Victory Day'
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hosted Saak Bishop Mashalian, the vicar of the Armenian Patriarchate of Istanbul, Peter Shirinyoglu, the chairman of the board of trustees of the Armenian Hospital Foundation, and a group of other representatives from the Armenian community last evening.
The community representatives had a brief conversation with the country's leader. Erdogan inquired about the process of electing the Patriarch of Istanbul. The community representatives informed him that they are waiting for the necessary authorization to hold the elections.
Subsequently, as instructed by Erdogan, the Interior Minister announced that the required permits would be sent within a week.
After the meeting, the vicar of the Armenian Patriarchate of Istanbul generally assessed the encounter positively.
The presidential office in Turkey organized the reception in honor of their holiday, 'Turkey's Victory Day,' which commemorates Turkey's victory over Greece in the 1922 war and the preservation of the nation's independence.
