Appeals Court Confirms Violations of Rights of Robert and Sedrak Kocharyan

The Armenian Court of Appeals, presided over by Judge Mnatsakanyan, today, September 2, rejected the Prosecutor General's appeal regarding the violation of the presumption of innocence of Robert Kocharyan, the second president of Armenia, during the investigation led by the head of the National Security Service.

This information was reported by Robert Kocharyan's legal office. It is noteworthy that earlier, NSS Head Sasun Khachatryan had characterized the accusation against Robert Kocharyan of attempting to overthrow the constitutional order as a proven fact. The first instance court found that this constituted a violation of Robert Kocharyan’s presumption of innocence.

Additionally, the Appeals Court, under the presidency of Judge Mkhitaryan, today rejected another appeal from the Prosecutor General, confirming that the presumption of innocence of Robert Kocharyan’s son, Sedrak Kocharyan, was also violated. Earlier, the NSS investigative department had issued a statement alleging that Sedrak Kocharyan had committed crimes. The first instance court had granted the defense's appeal against these statements.
