Birth Rate Decreases and Death Rate Increases in Armenia: 'Haykakan Jamanak'

'Haykakan Jamanak' reports that the population of Armenia has decreased by 3,700 in the first half of the year. This means that the number of Armenian citizens has officially declined. According to data published by the Statistical Committee of Armenia, as of July 1 this year, the permanent population of Armenia stood at 2,961,600. Compared to the same period last year, this figure has decreased by 8,200.

The decrease in the permanent population primarily occurred in regional cities and rural areas, with the most significant drop recorded in Shirak Province, which lost 2,200 residents.

In addition to the decline in permanent population, the number of births has also decreased. In the first half of this year, the number of births in Armenia was 16,111, compared to 16,261 in the same period last year and 17,171 as of July 1, 2017.

The number of deaths has also increased; as of July 1 this year, the number of deaths has risen by 572 compared to the same period last year.
