Environmentalists Assist Affected Storks by Cleaning Their Oily Feathers
Since early morning, the process of identifying the sources of pollution affecting the storks in the Hovtashen community of the Ararat region continues. Employees of the Inspectorate for Nature Protection and Mineral Resources, along with a group of volunteers, are conducting cleaning work for the storks.
It is important to note that earlier, in connection with the decline of storks in the Hovtashen community of the Ararat region, the Inspectorate for Nature Protection and Mineral Resources announced that, due to the operational efforts of its employees, a stork with oily feathers was relocated several days ago to the Scientific Center of Hydroecology and Ichthyology of the Armenian National Academy of Sciences to determine what substances had contaminated the birds.
Currently, sampling of the Razdan River and the surface waters adjacent to the Hovtashen community is being conducted to ascertain water pollution levels. Research is also being carried out regarding the wastewater from the operating entities in the area. Additional information will be provided regarding the results.
Photos of the affected storks are from Lyuba Balyan's Facebook page.
