In Sevan, Swimming is Allowed, but the Surroundings Must be Kept Clean, Says Prime Minister

During a government meeting, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan asked Minister of Environment Erik Grigoryan about the current situation regarding Lake Sevan. The minister reported that the condition is quite good now, with water transparency significantly higher than in the past two years.

Regarding the cyanobacterial blooms, Grigoryan mentioned that their rapid growth has been linked to several factors, including climatic conditions, wastewater discharge, and runoff from improperly treated areas. He noted that similar conditions have been observed in many water basins worldwide.

"In any case, reducing wastewater and rising water levels are our primary goals. The situation is good at this moment," Grigoryan stated. He added that despite existing challenges, the current water level in Sevan is 2 cm higher than last year, and less water has been drawn from the lake for irrigation in the Ararat Plain compared to the previous year.

Deputy Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan also stated that we can encourage citizens to swim in the lake. Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that it should be noted that citizens can swim in Sevan, but they must keep the surroundings clean.
