Armenian Woman Killed by Stoning in Syria
A journalist, international relations expert, and blogger of Arab descent on his paternal side and Russian descent on his maternal side, Juma Abbas, has reported via his Twitter account that a woman named Syuzan Der Karkur, an Armenian, has been killed in Syria's Idlib province, as per Ermenihaber.am.
The local Christian clergyman initiated a search for the missing Armenian woman on July 9, led by community members. As a result of the search efforts, her dismembered body was found in a desolate field. "The autopsy revealed that the woman had been subjected to nine hours of torture. After that, those beasts, supported by Turkey, stoned Syuzan to death," Abbas noted.
Arabist Armen Petrosyan also confirmed the information’s accuracy while providing some clarifications. According to the expert, "The news of Syuzan Der Karkur's death spread as early as July 12. She lived in the village of al-Yaqoub, adjacent to Jisr al-Shughur in the Idlib province, which was once predominantly populated by Armenians. Al-Yaqoub is a unique locality in Idlib with around 2,000 Christian residents, controlled by various opposition groups. During the initial phase of the Syrian crisis in 2011-2012, several dozen Armenian families relocated to Qesab and Aleppo as Idlib has always been a key stronghold for opposition groups. Syuzan Der Karkur was the last remaining Armenian in that locality and was married to a Christian Arab. Representatives of the Armenian community in Aleppo have repeatedly offered to relocate her to Aleppo, but in vain.
