There Are No State-Supported Shelters for Women Victims of Violence in Armenia
SHANTENWS.am today inquired with the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of Armenia, Zaruhi Batoyan, about whether Armenia has a sufficient number of shelters to provide refuge for women affected by violence.
“We have a problem regarding shelters. Currently, there is no shelter that receives state support. In other words, the state is not addressing this issue in any way, although we have a legal obligation. I hope that starting in 2020, we will have funding for 2 shelters from our budget, which would mean that we are fulfilling our commitment under the law that we adopted more than a year ago,” the minister stated.
