Armenian Philanthropist Providing Free Bread to the Poor in Russia Has Passed Away

Mamud Shavershyan, an Armenian philanthropist residing in Russia, has passed away. For over a decade, he has been distributing free bread to pensioners, the impoverished, and the disabled. He owned several grocery stores in Moscow and the town of Strunino in the Vladimir region.

According to Rusarminfo, long queues formed at Shavershyan's stores for free bread and sweets. His philanthropic endeavors were inspired by the words of his grandfather, who often said that one must help others.

People who were unaware that the bread distribution was Shavershyan's personal initiative sent complaints to the Russian presidential administration and other agencies, expressing dissatisfaction that they were receiving more free bread than they were entitled to.

“He was a man of substance and a person for all nations,” he once said in an interview with Gubernia 33. “You cannot imagine what kind of person my grandfather was. He lost his leg just months before the end of the war, yet he did not lose hope or sit idly by; he became the president of the collective farm and offered help to everyone.”
