Azerbaijan Refuses to Ensure Security for Armenians at UNESCO Committee Meeting
From June 30 to July 10, the 43rd session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee is taking place in Baku, to which Armenia was also invited to participate as an observer. The spokesperson for the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Anna Naghdalyan, stated today in a conversation with reporters that the Armenian side had requested additional security measures from UNESCO to ensure the participation of the Armenian delegation, considering the impossibility of Armenian citizens and, in general, persons of Armenian descent entering that country, as well as the anti-Armenian propaganda.
“However, despite the efforts made, two days before the event, the Armenian delegation received a letter from the deputy of the UNESCO Secretary-General stating that Azerbaijan has refused to provide written additional security measures for the unhindered entry of the Armenian delegation into the country and participation in the event. Armenia has submitted an official complaint to the leadership of UNESCO and member states, urging them to pay attention to this defective practice and to take a condemning stance.”
