Judges Have Serious Concerns

The newspaper 'Joghourd' reports that the judicial system is signaling a pressing issue, as the resignations of members of the Supreme Judicial Council have put them in a serious predicament. According to judges, following the resignations of the president and members of the Supreme Judicial Council, only 4 members remain, leading to a lack of quorum, which jeopardizes the functioning of the judicial authority.

Several judges told 'Joghourd' that this situation should be alarming for both the members of the National Assembly and the Union of Judges, since the National Assembly must present 3 candidates eligible for appointments to the Supreme Judicial Council, while a council of judges is meant to elect 3 judges as council members.

As of now, the National Assembly is still discussing a single candidate, Grigor Bekmezyan, who has yet to be elected. Additionally, the president of the Court of Cassation has not convened a judges' assembly, leaving the Supreme Judicial Council, which has numerous urgent issues to address, effectively dissolved. Judges even express concern about the possibility of not receiving their salaries, although the Judicial Department assured 'Joghourd' that this would not occur.
