Ornella Muti Submitted Fake Medical Certificate for Dinner with Putin

Italian actress Ornella Muti has been sentenced to prison and is also required to pay a fine of 500 euros to the court.

According to international news reports, the issue stems from Muti canceling a performance at the "Verdi" theater in Pordenone in December 2010, for which she had been paid 24,000 euros. The actress staged an illness at the time, while in reality she traveled to St. Petersburg, where she dined with Russian President Vladimir Putin and American actor Kevin Costner during a charity concert.

In February 2015, a court in Pordenone sentenced Muti to 8 months of imprisonment; however, she managed to present a fake medical certificate stating that she needed to rest for 5 days and refrain from using her voice. Nonetheless, a photograph of Muti at the dinner table with the Russian president began circulating online.

The actress could avoid imprisonment if she pays a fine of 30,000 euros to the "Verdi" theater.
