«Irates». Who Are They Blaming? Armen Sarkissian on the Former Officials
«Irates» newspaper reports that when President Armen Sarkissian nominated Vahe Grigoryan for a position in the Constitutional Court, representatives of the former government and certain political figures criticized him for being unprincipled.
However, diplomat Armen Sarkissian expressed his views quite precisely in this context, noting that it was the former officials who wrote and presented him with such a Constitution, where the president has no powers at all. So, who are they blaming now, for the Constitution they wrote to their liking?
The president also emphasized that, according to the fundamental law written by the former government, the president is considered the head of state and must adhere to the Constitution. “Am I supposed to follow it sitting on a horse or from the presidential office? It’s up to my discretion,” the president stated.
He pointed out that there are not even clear provisions on how the president should adhere to the Constitution, which is why Armen Sarkissian is guided by his own knowledge and experience.
