What Decision Will Pashinyan Make Regarding the Authorities’ ‘Heart Candidate’ Vahe Grigoryan?
The newspaper 'Hraparak' reports: 'The election of Vahe Grigoryan, the candidate for the Constitutional Court judge proposed by President Armen Sarkissian and regarded as the authorities’ “heart candidate,” may have an interesting course in the National Assembly.
The reason is not just that opposition factions are inclined to vote against the candidate; for example, within the Prosperous Armenia party, there are discussions on turning the process against the authorities and using their speeches to recall Grigoryan's claim that Armen Sarkissian is not a legitimate president, thus implying that the process of selecting a Constitutional Court judge is also illegitimate. In contrast, the Bright Armenia party will speak about the discrediting of state institutions and assert that the Civil Contract party has decided to find allies in the Constitutional Court in the form of Grigoryan.
However, among the 88 members of the My Step faction, attitudes toward Grigoryan are not uniform. Yesterday, My Step did not express a position regarding the upcoming vote, stating that they still need to meet and listen to the candidate. According to our information, that meeting is scheduled for today. But decisions in My Step are not made by the faction; they are made by Nikol Pashinyan.'
