Drivers with 100 or More Violations Targeted in New Penalty Points System

Drivers with 100 or more violations will be significantly targeted under the new penalty points system, says Armen Khachatryan, a member of the National Assembly from the 'My Step' faction and former deputy head of the Traffic Police, in an interview with Civilnet.am.

He notes that 85% of drivers in Armenia are disciplined, with only 5% committing numerous violations, creating the impression of 'uncontrolled traffic'.

"Merely applying fines is not an effective system," Khachatryan asserts, adding that a system for revoking driving licenses will also be implemented. At the same time, he mentions that the social burden will be alleviated: "If today we have fines ranging from 100,000 to 500,000 drams, under the acceptance of this project, the maximum fine will be 29,000 drams, and the amount will be compensated by reducing points."

Khachatryan also addressed the issue of vehicle imports and traffic congestion in Armenia, asserting that the best solution is an efficient transport network. The legislator also indicated plans for an innovation: "If someone gives their vehicle to another person for driving, that citizen will have the opportunity to inform the Traffic Police online, and an administrative act will be generated regarding the person who drove the vehicle."
