Greek Prime Minister Decides to Hold Early Parliamentary Elections

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has announced the decision to hold early parliamentary elections in the country. This has been reported by European media outlets.

The head of government made this decision after his party suffered defeat in the European Parliament elections. Preliminary data from the election results show that the opposition party, New Democracy, is in first place with 33.3%, while the ruling party is in second place with 23.9%.

Tsipras noted that he would wait for the local government elections in Greece, scheduled to take place on June 2, before asking the country's president to set a date for the new parliamentary elections.
