Garo Paylan: Armenians Portrayed as Traitors in Popular Turkish Series
During discussions in the Turkish Grand National Assembly, MP Garo Paylan addressed the offensive and hate-inciting portrayals of ethnic minorities, particularly Armenians, in the series "Vatan. Abdul Hamid," aired on Turkey's state television TRT, which narrates the life of the bloodthirsty Ottoman Sultan Abdul Hamid II.
“By the way, Abdul Hamid’s mother was Armenian. Her name was Vercine. That is not mentioned in the series. The entire bureaucracy, the pashas were Armenians, Greeks. There’s not a single example of that. But there’s one Armenian, a traitor. I’m about to say something very surprising. Do you know the name of that Armenian? Garo. So they specifically chose that name. How logical is that?” Paylan’s remarks were quoted by t24.com.tr.
