Governor Tramples Russian Flag: Edmond Marukyan Appeals to Government Colleagues

Edmond Marukyan, the leader of the Bright Armenia faction, has addressed the reports about Aragatsotn Governor Davit Gevorgyan's past involvement in an event where the Russian flag was burned.

“A few days ago, reports circulated in the media stating that the Aragatsotn governor had previously participated in an event where an attempt was made to burn the Russian flag, but the police did not allow it, after which our current governor trampled on the Russian flag,” Marukyan said.

“I believe there may be citizens who have an opinion against any country and express it by burning or trampling that country’s flag, but I cannot understand how such a person can hold a high-ranking position in Armenia, specifically the status of a governor, while the authorities work to maintain 'brilliant' relations with the Russian Federation,” he added.

“In other words, on one hand, we are expecting the delivery of Su-30SM jets from Russia and proclaiming that we are strategic partners, negotiating for the recognition of Armenian driving licenses in Russia, which has not materialized, and on the other hand, we appoint such a person to a high office.”

“It is interesting to question whether the Armenian government was aware of the Aragatsotn governor's political views at the time of his appointment and how they envision reconciling the goal of 'brilliant' relations with Russia while having such a governor,” he continued.

“My question is not rhetorical. I expect answers from my colleagues, particularly from Lilit Makunts,” Marukyan concluded.
