Have the Corrupt Prosecutors Become Saints? MP Questions Arthur Davtyan

How do you envision the level of corruption in your system? Are the risks high or low? What initiatives are you undertaking to combat it? Today, MP Edgar Arakelyan from the 'My Step' faction posed these questions to Armenia's Chief Prosecutor Arthur Davtyan during a parliament session.

'Possible biased approaches must be revealed as soon as possible, the causes must be eliminated, and accountability should be addressed. We must have zero tolerance for corruption. I can say that we have succeeded in forming that environment within the system,' the prosecutor responded.

Arakelyan noted that since Soviet times, there has been a belief in public consciousness that prosecutors are the most corrupt and 'dirty' officials. 'Is this no longer in line with reality? Are prosecutors no longer saints?' the MP asked.

'I do not think that people can be divided into two categories: saints and corruptors. I am not aware of any saints on this earth, but the public consciousness being so is excluded from today’s system,' Arthur Davtyan replied.
