Live: National Assembly Discusses Changes to the Tax Code
The National Assembly is currently holding parliamentary hearings initiated by the Permanent Commission on Economic Issues. The agenda includes a package of draft laws on "Amendments and Additions to the Tax Code" and related legislation.
It is noteworthy that representatives of the authorities, starting from Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, have been discussing the proposed changes to the tax code for already a year.
Numerous discussions on this draft have already taken place, as well as many protests against the anticipated changes. In particular, exchange points and pawnshops have conducted protests for a long time, as their state duty is set to rise sharply under the new code.
Additionally, lawyers and accountants raised a wave of protests, as their activities were planned to be included under the value-added tax regime; however, they later withdrew from that intention.
Under the proposed tax code, a flat rate of 23 percent is to be established for income tax, with plans to exempt businesses with an annual turnover of up to 124 million dram from all types of taxes.
