10.5 Billion Debt in Water Sector: Prime Minister Says It's Unlikely Farmers Haven't Paid

There is a debt of approximately 8 to 10.5 billion drams in the water system, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated during a government meeting today.

"We have mechanisms in place. When water is supplied, debts accumulate against it. We need to understand how these debts have arisen. Have farmers not paid? Or have farmers paid, but companies have not recorded it?" the Prime Minister noted, adding that all agricultural households in Armenia should be aware of the 10.5 billion dram debt regarding the water system.

He mentioned that it is unlikely that farmers have not paid, suggesting that there is a hypothesis that serious corruption schemes have been at play. The head of the State Oversight Service, Davit Sanasaryan, also indicated that a study on this topic will be presented on March 15, while Pashinyan added that this issue needs serious attention.
