Cafés Adjacent to the Opera House to Become Green Areas
A green zone will be restored in the area adjacent to the Opera. This was announced by the spokesperson of the Yerevan mayor, Hakob Karapetyan, on his Facebook page.
“According to the public commitment of Mayor Hayk Marutyan and his team, the municipality has begun the process of restoring and developing green areas in Yerevan.
In particular, in the vicinity of the Opera, specifically in the section adjacent to Freedom Square, operators renting city-owned land and operating café businesses have been notified by the relevant department of the municipality, which proposes that they give up part of the land granted under rental rights (marked in green in the photos).
According to the contracts signed with the operators, the Yerevan community, represented by the municipality, has the right to demand the vacating of rented areas with a notice period of 30 days at ANY TIME.
It should be noted that all cafés operating in the area designated for greening, with the exception of one, have café spaces in adjacent sections, meaning that only part of the areas they manage will be designated for greening.
The municipality is not obliged to provide compensation to the operators if this provision of the contract is implemented. Nevertheless, the city authorities remain committed to their policy of promoting entrepreneurship, and the mentioned operators can, of course, continue their businesses in other, more suitable areas of the city.
After clearing these areas and removing the concrete surfaces, the municipality will begin greening the area starting this spring.
