If the 'Zangezur Corridor' is opened, travel from Istanbul to Baku by train and car will be possible, Hajiyev says
The Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, Hikmet Hajiyev, stated to CNN Turk that the launch of the so-called 'Zangezur Corridor' will create new transportation prospects for Turkey and Azerbaijan.
According to Hajiyev, the Azerbaijani side is close to completing the construction of transportation infrastructures. The roads and railway connecting Baku to Zangezour and the Armenian border are in the final stages of construction, and the railway section to Nakhchivan has been restored.
He also pointed out that Turkey is constructing a new railway between Kars and Igdir, which will be included in the regional transportation network.
“If the 'Zangezur Corridor' is opened, it will be possible to travel from Istanbul to Baku by car or train. This is not such a distant prospect. Active diplomatic work and infrastructure construction are ongoing,” Hajiyev noted.
During the interview, he also asserted that Armenia, along with the United States, has committed to completing the construction of the missing segment, which is approximately 42 kilometers long.
According to the Azerbaijani presidential assistant, the completion of these works will create new opportunities for trade and transportation.
