25 States File Lawsuit Against Trump Administration

Twenty-five states in the United States have filed a lawsuit against President Donald Trump's administration, challenging the legality of new tariffs. According to the Associated Press, the plaintiffs argue that the administration is attempting to reinstate import tariffs that the Supreme Court had previously declared illegal.

Last month, the U.S. imposed double-digit tariffs on imports from 59 countries and the European Union, claiming that these nations have not taken sufficient steps to prevent the importation of goods produced with forced labor.

New York Attorney General Letitia James stated that after losing in the Supreme Court, the administration is again attempting to unlawfully raise the tax burden on American families and businesses. The Trump administration justifies the new tariffs under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, which allows the president to impose tariffs on countries that the U.S. alleges violate fair trade rules.

The White House claims that the new measures comply with the law and are aimed at preventing actions that harm American trade and workers. This marks the third lawsuit filed against Trump's tariff policy, following similar actions from representatives of American small businesses.
