Why is Gasoline Getting More Expensive in Armenia? The Chairman of the CPC Reveals the Reason

The recent increase in gasoline prices in Armenia is attributed to changes in the global market. Gegham Gevorgyan, the chairman of the Competition Protection Commission, stated in a conversation with reporters on July 30 that the price dynamics of fuel in Armenia have overall aligned with global trends in recent years.

He noted that thanks to the diversification of import sources, it has been possible to maintain a degree of price competitiveness. According to Gevorgyan, the commission conducts monthly monitoring, keeping an eye on both prices and volumes.

He emphasized that due to ongoing global changes, the markets for gasoline and diesel fuel are in an unstable state, which has led to a certain increase in prices. The CPC chairman indicated that the current discussions revolve around changes observed in the last two to three days and that the final picture still needs to be assessed.

Regarding the reduction of fuel supplies from Russia, Gevorgyan mentioned that challenges stemming from the Russia-Ukraine war have been present for several years. "For about the last two to three years, we have almost stopped importing gasoline from Russia. Moreover, there have also been issues with diesel fuel supplies," he reported.
