The Case of Buhrakhavan's Poisoning and 'Veolia Water's' Responsibility: Pashinyan on the Decayed System

The Prime Minister of Armenia has stated that the water supply system in Armenia is widely decayed and that substantial investments are needed to address the issue.

Nikol Pashinyan made this remark during a press briefing following a cabinet meeting, where he addressed the recent case of intestinal poisoning caused by discrepancies in the water supply in the community of Buhrakhavan.

“We need to ensure that the answers obtained are justified and that ‘Veolia Water’ and other responsible bodies draw conclusions. Necessary decisions must be made. The issue is not just about investment. Sometimes we seem to think that by installing pipes we have solved the problem, but if all this is not subjected to daily maintenance, we will again face the same problems. Serious investments are required for daily maintenance. Furthermore, risk management should also be included in the tariffs. We must confront the problem and be guided by standards. All processes must be included in the tariff so that we can ensure the long-term quality service of daily water supply,” said the Prime Minister of Armenia.
