Former Iranian Foreign Minister Injured in Tehran Shooting, Wife Reportedly Killed
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran has reported that the country's former foreign minister, Kamal Kharrazi, has been injured in a shooting that took place in Tehran. The incident occurred today during an attack in the capital.
Kharrazi is regarded as one of Iran's prominent diplomats and political figures. He currently heads the Strategic Council on International Relations, which deals with foreign policy matters and provides consultancy to the country’s highest leadership.
He served as Iran's foreign minister from 1997 to 2005 during the presidency of Mohammad Khatami. Prior to that, from 1989 to 1997, Kharrazi represented Iran at the United Nations as its permanent representative.
At the same time, it has been reported that his wife has been killed in the same incident, although this information has not been officially confirmed.
