Minister of Justice Surbhi Galayan on the Beating of a One-Year-Old Child
During a briefing, Minister of Justice Surbhi Galayan addressed the issue of the beating of a one-year-old child and the question of whether changes in the criminal code could prevent or mitigate such incidents. She stated that severe punishment, including life imprisonment, is already prescribed for heinous killings.
“What more should be provided by the policymaking body? Will the death penalty be established? I must inform you that Armenia and the Council of Europe are in a zone free from the death penalty, and the convention on human rights and freedoms prohibits capital punishment,” she emphasized.
