Our Goal is Clear: Ukraine Should Be Able to Negotiate from a Position of Strength, Von der Leyen
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, asserts that the actions of European countries regarding the conflict in Ukraine will help secure a safe future for Kyiv.
"Our goal is clear: to ensure that Ukraine can negotiate peace on its own terms—from a position of strength—and a secure, reliable, and prosperous future for its citizens within the EU framework," she wrote on social media.
The head of the European Commission added that the loan provided to Kyiv by the EU is approaching completion, and the 20th package of anti-Russian sanctions is already on its way.
On February 11, the European Parliament approved a €90 billion loan for Ukraine for the years 2026-2027. The decision on the joint loan was made at the EU summit in December 2025. At that time, Belgium was able to block the use of frozen Russian assets for this purpose.
Of this amount, €60 billion is allocated for military assistance, with priority given to weapons from European countries.
