In a Few Days, the World May Find Itself in a More Dangerous Situation, Peskov
The global situation could become more dangerous if the "Strategic Offensive Arms Reduction Treaty" (START) ceases to function. This was stated by Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of Russia, during a briefing, according to TASS.
"And in just a few days, the world will likely find itself in a more dangerous situation than it has been. For the first time, the United States and the Russian Federation, the two countries with the largest nuclear arsenals in the world, will be without a fundamental document that limits and provides oversight over those arsenals. We believe this is very bad," emphasized the Kremlin representative.
Peskov added that such a situation is negative for "security and strategic security around the world." The new START treaty is set to expire on February 5. It limits the number of intercontinental ballistic missiles, as well as certain other missiles and nuclear warheads that Russia and the United States may possess.
