Iran May Expel Military Attachés from EU Countries
Iran has decided to classify European armies as "terrorist groups" in response to the EU's designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization. This decision will impact all EU countries that supported the classification of the IRGC as a terrorist group, stated Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, speaker of the Iranian Parliament.
He also noted that Iran could expel military attachés from EU countries. "By attempting to attack the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the Europeans have actually shot themselves in the foot," Ghalibaf remarked. He further stated that the EU acts against the interests of its own population by "blindly obeying the Americans." According to the Associated Press, in 2019, Iran similarly reiterated the classification of other countries' armies as terrorist entities after the U.S. designated the IRGC as such.
