The European Union Is Starting to Understand Where Its Happiness Lies, Says Lukashenko
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko stated during a meeting in Minsk with the governor of Russia's Kirov region that the European Union is beginning to realize the need to defend its interests on the international stage and understands where its happiness lies. According to him, Europe’s rightful place is alongside Russia and Belarus.
Lukashenko pointed out that Europe today is forced to buy gas at five times the price that Russia once offered. He emphasized that Minsk and Moscow do not welcome the current problems in the European economy.
Commenting on German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's statements, Lukashenko noted that Europe is finally starting to show the political will to respond to potential tariffs from the U.S. with its own sanctions.
According to the Belarusian president, the Eurasian region is one common home where cooperation should be built, rather than relying on the dictates of the Western Hemisphere.
Lukashenko added that despite the escalation of the situation, he does not support an open confrontation between the EU and the U.S., but hopes that Europe will become a more independent player in international relations.
