IAEA Reports No Nuclear Threats from Russia
The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, has stated that Russia has not threatened to use nuclear weapons.
"I have not recorded any threats of a nuclear strike," he said in response to questions regarding Russia. He noted that at some point, there were statements alleging that nuclear weapons exist in the case of existential threats.
"In reality, this is the nuclear weapons doctrine for almost all countries. Nuclear weapons are a means of deterrence," Grossi mentioned in an interview with the Pais newspaper. At the same time, he emphasized that the increasing tensions in the international arena remain a risk factor.
Previously, Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that under current conditions, nuclear deterrence is an integral element in neutralizing external threats to Russia. Simultaneously, it was noted in Russia that Moscow has never issued threats against any country, and the country's nuclear doctrine only envisions retaliatory strikes in response to the use of nuclear or other types of weapons of mass destruction against itself or its allies.
