New Legislative Initiative for Military Personnel
Military personnel of the Armed Forces of Armenia will soon have the opportunity to join trade unions, announced Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Davit Khachatryan during a parliamentary committee meeting.
According to him, based on the application from the Human Rights Defender of Armenia, the Constitutional Court recognized as unconstitutional the provisions of the 'Trade Unions Law' that prohibited military personnel from joining trade unions.
'Our department has received a letter from the Prime Minister's office requiring the implementation of the Constitutional Court's decision. In light of this, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs has developed a package of legislative proposals in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense, which aims to completely eliminate the restrictions on military personnel joining trade unions,' stated Khachatryan.
The Deputy Minister added that the restrictions would also be lifted for employees of the police, the National Security Service, the Prosecutor's Office, as well as judges of the courts and the Constitutional Court.
Following discussions, the legislative initiative received a positive conclusion from the parliamentary standing committee.
