Former Head of Abovyan Charged with Illegal Alienation of Community Lands: New Details
The Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia has reported the uncovering of illegal land transactions carried out by the former mayor of Abovyan from 2015 to 2021.
The investigation revealed that he exploited his official position to alienate land plots belonging to the community through formal auctions and direct sales, which were designated as public green areas and could not be sold.
In addition, the former mayor and a staff member of the municipality falsified auction records, introducing data regarding participants and signatures that did not correspond to reality.
The former mayor has been charged under several articles of the previous Criminal Code of Armenia, while his aide faces similar allegations. During the investigation, 49 million 178 thousand drams were recovered from the damages caused to the community. The case has been sent to the anti-corruption court with an accusatory conclusion.
