Former Minister of National Security in Azerbaijan May Face Arrest
The former Minister of National Security of Azerbaijan, Eldar Mahmudov, may soon be arrested. This information has been reported by local media outlets.
According to the Azerbaijani Prosecutor's Office, a separate criminal case is currently being initiated against the former minister Eldar Mahmudov and other individuals. "Based on available information, approximately 29.6 million euros embezzled from the state budget were initially transferred to a bank account in Latvia, belonging to an offshore company registered in the Dominican Republic. The owner of the company, Sahib Ali oglu Aghayev, is considered a close partner of Eldar Mahmudov. Between 2014 and 2015, funds from this account were transferred to accounts of other offshore companies controlled by Anar Mahmudov," local media reports.
It is worth noting that Aghayev was charged with corruption by the Baku Serious Crimes Court in 2018 and was sentenced on June 16, 2020.
