Colombia Attacks US Embassy with Bows and Arrows
In Bogotá, Colombia, protesters attacked the US embassy using bows and arrows, as well as explosives and incendiary devices. According to Colombian police, clashes occurred in front of the embassy building. Some of the protesters were masked and employed explosives, Molotov cocktails, and projectiles. Four police officers were injured during the incident.
“I have ordered maximum caution around the US embassy in Bogotá. It is regrettable that after reaching an agreement to lift the blockades with the People's Congress, a more radical group attacked the police guarding the embassy, injuring several youths with arrows. The embassy was protected, as I promised,” President Gustavo Petro wrote on his blog on the X social media platform.
Pedro Sánchez, Colombia's Minister of Defense, characterized the incident not as a “demonstration,” but as an “attempted murder.” “The Colombian state does not tolerate and will not tolerate such attacks on law enforcement agents. Anyone who attacks a soldier or police officer is attacking the state. Those responsible for these crimes will be caught,” stated the defense minister.
Bogotá Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán, for his part, announced that he had instructed the police to intervene in the situation near the US embassy. He pledged to refer the matter to international bodies, including the UN.
